ANNOUNCEMENT OF MOVE ,NEW PARTNERSHIP, & NEW DIRECTOR

The governing boards of Burdett Commons, Inc. which has been in existence since 1999 and the Arlington
Community Club wish to announce the move of Burdett Commons, a community organization for the towns
of Arlington, Sandgate, and Sunderland, to the new location of The Arlington Community House at 3854
Route 7A, Arlington . The Arlington Community House was left by the Canfield Family and chartered as The
Arlington Community Club as a location for use by the town library and as a community meeting place.  The
by- laws of the two organizations allow for a good working relationship: the Community Club providing the
facility and Burdett running programs.
In review of by- laws, the Burdett board recognizes many changes in the area since its by-laws were written
and is attempting to change with “changing times” to assess and meet the “ever changing” needs of
citizens.  To assess these changes it will be developing a survey for residents that will be routinely
administered and shared with other community organizations in hopes that coordination and participation
by community organizations can result in community needs being met. Burdett welcomes input concerning
programming or service at any time.
Presently, all groups that had been meeting at Burdett’s former location are meeting at the Community
House.  Groups or individuals wishing to schedule space at the Arlington Community House are to call
375-6119.
The new partnership is moving smoothly and it is expected that the Arlington Community Club will be
responsible for building maintenance and scheduling while Burdett Commons will be responsible for
programming.
Burdett recently hired Eric Green as its director.  Eric will be meeting with the Burdett Youth Advisory Board
to establish programming fo
r the youth of Arlington, Sandgate, and Sunderland area. He also will be
planning some community events and hopes to establish some summer programming for 12-15 year olds.

To offer input, e-mail  burdettc@sover.net, or use the e-mail in this website.
This website for the non- profits of the Arlington area is one of Burdett's goals set in the Fall of 2007.
The Burdett Board would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported  these  Burdett
initiatives and programs  through  our 2007 Fund Drive. A list of donors is posted at the Arlington
Community House.

Burdett was awarded a grant in March 2008 from Stewart's Match Program. These grant funds will help
provide our youth programming.
