Annual Memberships Available at Arlington's Recreation Park
Since 1972, the non-profit Arlington Recreational and Park Committee, Inc. has been the overseer for the
land provided for recreation. Over the years, a remarkable park facility has been created.
The the towns of Arlington, Sandgate and Sunderland, and the Arlington Schools contribute one third of
the total cost of maintaining the park. As expenses have increased, the Park has increased its reliance
on fees and public donations to maintain the park..
The nine hole golf course continues to be a favorite addition to the park and is used daily, In an effort to
meet expenses, the Board agreed to set a fee of $5.00 to use the golf course. The fee must be deposited
in the collection box upon the start of each game.
A membership can now be purchased for $50.00 and allows each member unlimited play other than the
designated times that tournaments are scheduled.
Residents may sign up for a membership by stopping in the park office any weekday between the hours of
8-4 PM or by mailing a check for $50.00 made out to The Arlington Recreational Park along with your name,
address, telephone number, and email address. The park's mailing address is: P.O. Box 218, Arlington, VT
05250. All members will receive a tag to attach to their golf bag to identify them as a member.
All information about joining a golf league is available at the park office or by contacting the park

MASONS
Freemasonry (the Masons) - Red Mountain Lodge #63 F&AM, Arlington.
The Freemasons (Masons for short), is the oldest and largest fraternal organization for gentlemen, in the world. The
earliest mention of the Craft was in 926 ad. The first written Lodge reports were in the early 1400's. Here in the
United States, Freemasonry was instituted in the mid to late 1700's by many of our Founding Fathers, including
George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Many of our Past Presidents and public personalities were also Masons.
Here in Vermont , Masonic Lodges were known to exist as early as the mid-1700's. Ira Allen and Seth Warner were
Masons, as well as many of the Green Mountain Boys. Thomas Chittenden, first Governor of Vermont was also a
Mason, as is our current Governor James Douglas.
Here in Arlington the first Masonic Lodge was chartered in the mid 1700's as Newton Lodge. After this Lodge became
dormant in the mid 1800's, a new Lodge was formed. Red Mountain Lodge received a Charter in 1863. Our most
famous member was Norman Rockwell. Many of the Lodge members were also his models. The Lodge is located at
117 East Arlington Rd., in front of the old railroad station.
Any Mason world-wide, with a current dues card from their home Lodge is welcome to attend our meetings. The public
is invited to attend any of our Community activities or public suppers. The members of Red Mountain Lodge have also
maintained the Arlington Ice Skating Rink in the Rec
Park, on Route 313 during the winter months.
The Lodge supports most of the Arlington Community Service Organizations with monetary donations and provides
annual scholarships to AMHS.
We also support the Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled & Burned Children, which offer whatever treatment children
require at no cost! (All Shriners
are also Masons. ). For more information on membership in the Masons, or Freemasonry in general, you may
contact: Bill Cotrofeld, Sec'y.
